Degrees of Freedom and the Deconfining Phase Transition
Abstract
There is a sharp increase in the relative number of degrees of freedom, n, at the deconfining phase transition. If n is proportional to the pressure, then in a Polyakov Loop model of QCD, the energy loss of a fast parton grows relatively quickly, proportional to the square root of n; in contrast, dilepton production grows slowly, proportional to n^2.Keywords
