Abstract
Antipsoriatic response to topical administration of 0.1- and 0.3-percent retinoic acid (vitamin A acid) has been determined in a single blind study as compared with placebo and crude coal tar. Forty consecutive patients with chronic psoriasis were included in the study. Both concentrations of retinoic acid and crude coal tar were significantly more effective than placebo following 2 weeks of application, and 0.3-percent retinoic acid was more effective than crude coal tar. Irritation in the form of erythema was noted with the 0.3-percent concentration of retinoic acid. Keywords
