Abstract
The field theoretical Green's function technique has been used to define an elastic scattering optical and inelastic scattering transition potential for the structureless atom‐diatom scattering problem. The functional differentiation technique of Schwinger has been utilized to generate approximations for these potentials. First and second order approximations are given and their physical interpretation discussed. Keywords
