Color-octet intrinsic charm inηandBηXdecays

Abstract
The color-octet mechanism for the decay BηX is proposed to explain the large branching ratio of B(BηX)1×103 recently announced by CLEO. We argue that the inclusive η production in B decays may dominantly come from the Cabibbo-favored b(c¯c)8s process where the c¯c pair is in a color-octet configuration, and followed by the nonperturbative transition (c¯c)8ηX. The color-octet intrinsic charm component in the higher Fock states of η is crucial and is induced by the strong coupling of η to gluons via the QCD axial anomaly.
