Abstract
An interesting mutant form of Melilotus alba, with extremely large and peculiarly wrinkled ("rugose") leaves, was detected in the summer of 1959. Inheritance data indicated a single genetic basis of a recessive gene with major pleiotropic effects. The pleiotropy affected leaf size, leaf morphology, flower morphology, leaf : stem ratio and female fertility. Segregating families were often deficient in the recessive rugose class.
