Abstract
Four related techniques for doing brief psychotherapy with medical students are described, which capitalize on styles of ego adaptation and defense characteristic of this population. These styles involve use of intellectual mastery and intellectualization. The therapeutic use of a frequently occurring form of positive ego-ideal transference is also discussed. Keywords
