On the mammals collected on coastal islands of Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil

Abstract
Twenty one species of mammals were sampled on eight islands off Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Analyses performed on the data suggest that bats are at insular equilibrium but that terrestrial mammals are a relictual fauna formed when the landscape was drowned. It seems that for terrestrial mammals some deterministic pattern may be involved in the structuring of the community.
