Abstract
Phosphorus pentafluoride forms 1:1 adducts with trimethylphosphine, tri-n-propylphosphine, tris(dimethylamino)phosphine, bis(dimethylamino)methylphosphine, and dimethylaminodimethylphosphine. It is concluded that these adducts all contain a phosphorus–phosphorus bond. When heated, the adducts formed by the methylaminophosphines decompose to give dimethylaminofluorophosphoranes. The reactions between phosphorus trifluoride and phosphorus oxytrifluoride and dimethylaminophosphines have been studied. The products correspond to exchange of oxygen, dimethylamino-, or fluorine substituents between the phosphorus atoms but do not correspond to random reorganisation. A number of related reactions involving phosphorus trifluoride and dimethylaminophosphine oxides are reported. Keywords
