Resistance of White-fleshed Sweet Potato Cultivars to the Sweet Potato Weevil1

Abstract
Five cultivars and 34 selections of white-fleshed and one breeding line of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) were evaluated in field plots for resistance to the sweet potato weevil, Cylas formicaius elegantulus (Summers). There were significant differences in susceptibility, with ‘Picadita’ and several selections being the most promising. The variation in weevil susceptibility offers possibilities for developing resistant cultivars.
