Study of the $γ γ$ decays of the $χ_{c 2} {(1}^{3} P_{2})$ and $χ_{c 0} {(1}^{3} P_{0})$ charmonium resonances

Abstract

We report the branching ratios of the

χ_{c 2} {(1}^{3} P_{2})

and

χ_{c 0} {(1}^{3} P_{0})

charmonium resonances to two photons using event samples collected by Fermilab experiment E835 in the reactions

\bar{p} \vec{p} χ_{c 2} {(1}^{3} P_{2}) [χ_{c 0} {(1}^{3} P_{0})] .

Our result for the

χ_{c 2}

is

B (χ_{c 2} \to γ γ) = (1.35 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.12) \times 10^{- 4} .

We set a 95% upper limit for the

χ_{c 0}

branching ratio

B (χ_{c 0} \to γ γ)

at

2.09 \times 10^{- 4} .
