Abstract
Content analysis employed in a four-week monitoring of each daytime television drama broadcast in 1979 showed that older adult actors comprised 8% of the characters. Only one older character was black, and older males outnumbered older females in minor parts nearly two to one. Older females were portrayed as nurturing whereas older males were more likely to engage in listening behaviors. The study builds on the earlier studies of Cassata et al. (1980) and Ansello (1978) and provides a base for future content analyses. Keywords
