Monitoring of Activated Clotting Time during Carotid Endarterectomy

Abstract
The activated clotting time was monitored in 10 patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy. This measure accurately tells the surgeon the level of anticoagulation and permits him to calculate the exact amount of protamine needed for heparin reversal. This technique can be done easily and, in our opinion, enhances the safety of carotid endarterectomy.
