Impact on teachers when a child with cancer returns to school

Abstract
Improvements in the long‐term survival of children with cancer have made it possible for increasing numbers to return to school. School re‐entry presents challenges to children, parents, and teachers alike. This article describes the dilemmas and feelings teachers confront when the child with cancer returns to the classroom. The discussion demonstrates the need to include teachers as a more integral part of the health care team and offers guidance to those who want to ease the transition back to school for these children.
