Abstract
The glycosaminoglycans of bovine interphotoreceptor matrix were analyzed biochemically and compared with those of neural retina and retinal pigment epithelium. Chondroitin sulfates extracted from these three tissues were electrophoretically low-sulfated and composed of various kinds of chondroitin sulfate isomers. Interphotoreceptor matrix and retinal pigment epithelium contained hyaluronic acid as another glycosaminoglycan. With regard to neural retina, chemical characteristics of another component identified on the membrane are still unknown.
