Abstract
A useful method for investigating the L 2 instability of the feedback interconnection of a linear unstable subsystem G and a nonlinear stable subsystem N is to resolve L 2 into two orthogonal spaces on the basis of the input-output behavior of G . This yields insight and permits simple proofs of various instability counterparts to stability theorems. Keywords
