Abstract
Mutations enabling bacteria to grow on novel compounds have been studied as models for experimental biochemical evolution. The genetic changes involve (a) alteration of the mode of gene expression, (b) modification of the specificity of enzymes, and (c) increased synthesis of particular enzymes, possibly resulting from gene duplications. This publication has 35 references indexed in Scilit:
