Abstract
Several addition and deletion mutations were constructed in the region of the gene for Escherichia coli tRNATyr su+3 corresponding to the dihydrouracil loop of the mature tRNA. None of these resulting mutants had detectable suppressor function compared to the parent gene yet some directed the synthesis of mature tRNA. These latter mutants may affect the ability of the tRNA to be aminoacylated or to interact with the translational machinery on the ribosome. Keywords
