Abstract
The model-potential method of Bottcher and Dalgarno (1974, 1975) has been implemented to treat the case of a complex atom (with more than one valence electron around a closed shell) interacting with an inert-gas atom. The formulation, allowing for configuration interaction, is described, and potential curves are presented for excited states of calcium and magnesium interacting with helium and neon. Keywords
