Abstract
Summary In experiments conducted near Rome (Italy) and Leeds (England), maximum growth of two lettuce cultivars was found to occur with radiant energy levels, in the visible waveband, of between 100 and 200 cal cm-2 day-1. Energy conversion efficiency increased, and leaf ascorbic acid content declined, with decreasing radiation levels. Keywords
