Detection ofπ−μCoulomb Bound States

We have observed atoms consisting of a pion and a muon produced in the decay ${K_L}^0\to {\left(\pi \mu \right)}_{\mathrm{atom}}\nu$. This represents the first observations of an atom composed of two unstable particles and of an atomic decay of an elementary particle.
