Marginalia to McClintock's Work on Mutable Loci in Maize

Abstract
McClintock''s recent work is discussed in its bearing on several basic problems of genetics. A detailed discussion is presented of the parallelism of facts and interpretations for maize and Lymantria and the question is discussed whether the work on maize permits new insight into the difficult problem of mosaicism in intersexes. In addition the meaning of the new facts for a modern theory of the gene is analyzed.
