Actual and predicted tide levels at the biological station, Espegrend, Blomsterdalen

Abstract
A float-operated tide gauge was operated at the Biological Station, Espegrend, Norway during the period September 1961–April 1962. Summaries of the original recordings are given. Striking differences were found between the recorded and the predicted tides. Possible effects of changes in air pressure, wind direction and wind force in relation to these differences are discussed. We incline to the view that the fluctuations in sea-level in the area concerned are primarily related to changes in air pressure with winds having a supporting but not opposing role. A discussion of biological consequences of such fluctuations is given.
