Abstract
The authors develop an approach to active noise cancellation using a single microphone. The noise field is modelled as a stochastic process, and a time-adaptive algorithm based on a modification of the block-estimate-maximize (EM) algorithm is used to adaptively estimate the parameters of this process. Based on these parameter estimates a canceling signal is generated. The algorithm developed is evaluated with recordings of aircraft noise, and has been implemented in real time with a single AT&T DSP32C chip. Keywords
