Abstract
Four types of basic dyke are found in a small, well exposed area of early Lewisian complex gneisses near Badcall. All the dykes were intruded into the gneisses while these were at relatively high temperatures. One dyke of picritic composition has quenched directly to an amphibole rock on intrusion. It is argued that there is no evidence that the gneisses of the Scourie district were ever cool or brought to high levels in the crust between the two periods of Lewisian regional metamorphism. Keywords
