Abstract
Kubo's modified theory of Brownian motion is used to calculate the friction experienced by a plasma electron. It is found that the spectral decomposition of the average Coulomb interaction is similar in functional form to the Landau damping decrement. It is also shown that when this friction is summed over the large wavenumber region of the spectrum the usual collision frequencies result. Keywords
