Abstract
Forward scattering by a sphere located anywhere in a Gaussian beam is calculated by using a simple numerical model based on the Fraunhofer approximation. Comparison to experimental results obtained for glass particles placed in a He–Ne laser beam shows excellent agreement. Computed diffraction patterns are displayed for centered and off-centered particles. Keywords
