A New Dietary Factor Related to Xanthine Oxidase

Abstract
Two dietary factors essential to obtain normal liver xanthine oxidase levels in rats on diets containing adequate riboflavin are (1) adequate protein, (2) an unidentified factor found in raw cream and liver. In expts. on weanling rats placed on specific diets it is shown that a 21% protein diet is adequate to provide protein required for normal liver xanthine oxidase levels provided another dietary essential is present in adequate amts. A direct relationship is shown between the amount of the unknown factor present in the diet (in the form of the food supplements containing it) and the liver xanthine oxidase levels.
