Abstract
Peroxide oxidation of cajanol ethyl ether afforded the B ring derived product, 2-methoxy-4-ethoxybenzoic acid. For mation of this compound means that the structure of cajanol, a major phytoalexin from Cajanus cajan, must be revised to 5,4ʹ-dihydroxy-7,2ʹ-dimethoxyisoflavanone.
