Abstract

We have measured the relaxation of photo-excited states in C ₆₀ by time-resolved optical absorption. An ultrafast response (~1ps) is observed which is found to be dependent on excitation density, the characteristic time decreasing with increasing laser intensity. This is consistent with a distortion of the molecule induced by the photo-excited electrons.
