Effect of Oxygen on P. lophurae Infected Ducks.

Abstract
Ducks inoculated with Plasmodium lophurae and put immediately into a chamber with a conc. of 50-85% O2 showed a higher degree of parasitemia than controls kept in the duck room. The time of death was essentially the same in the 2 groups. Ducks similarly infected and put into the oxygen chamber on the 4th day developed a higher degree of parasitemia and survived for a longer time than the controls. These observations apparently support the opinion that anoxia is a significant factor in the mechanism of death in the acute forms of malaria.
