Effect of Dihydroergocornine on the Heart.

Abstract
The effect of an intraven. injn. of 0.5 mg. of dihydro-ergocornine on the ecg. of 24 patients with marked left ventricular hypertrophy caused by hypertension or aortic valvular lesions was studied. Previous investigations had shown that ergotamine tartrate and dihydro-ergotamine 45 caused significant ecg. changes and anginal pain. Dihydroergocornine did not alter the ecg. and did not lead to anginal pain even in those patients who suffered from an angina on effort. This particular alkaloid of ergot seems therefore to be a safe sympathicolytic drug in patients with coronary artery disease.
