Abstract

Mild protonation of [Fe₄(CO)₁₁(µ-CO)(µ₃-COMe)]^– yields [Fe₄H(CO)₁₂(η²-COMe)]; this reacts further with strong acid to give CH₄, which originates from the η²-COMe⁺ ligand.
