Abstract
The sensitivity of models of cloud-topped mixed layers to various specifications of the radiative cooling rate near the cloud top is investigated. It is found that for the “dry cloud” case an assumed distributed cooling rate leads to a shallower mixed layer and more positive surface turbulent heat flux than does a discontinuous radiative flux model. Keywords
