Abstract
Normal and abnormal development of the stem apex is described for the carnation Dianthus caryophyllus, cultivated varieties. Abnormalities described include adventitious buds within the flower, carpel-like structures in the stamen whorl, excessive development of ovules, and axile secondary flower formations. Some comments are made on their occurrence and they are discussed in the light of present hypotheses concerning flower initiation and development. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
