Abstract
E. sibiricensis, a cestode parasitic in microtine rodents (Microtus oeconomus innuitus and Clethrionomys rutilus albiventer) and man in the larval stage, and in the Arctic fox (Alopex lagopus) and sledge dog in the adult form, is described as new. E. sibiricensis is differentiated from other known spp. of Echinococcus by its natural occurrence in the larval stage in microtine rodents, and its alveolar-form larva, produced through exogenous budding. The adult stage cannot always be differentiated from E. granulosus. which it most closely resembles. Experimentally, it has been found impossible to infect microtine rodents with the larval stage of E. granulosus. It is possible that E. sibiricensis may be identical with the spp. of Echinococcus in Eurasia, the larva of which causes alveolar hydatid disease in man. Keywords
