Abstract
The compound Kr has been studied by use of the techniques of Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results are that (a) the interaction energy is mHz, (b) the ratio of the nuclear quadrupole moment of the excited state to that of the ground state is , and (c) the isomer shift referred to atomic krypton is 1.50±0.10 mm/sec. These results are interpreted as supporting the infrared, Raman, and NMR results which other groups had previously obtained for this compound and as confirming the earlier conclusions reached with the analogous compound Xe. The quadrupole moment of the first excited state of is found to be 0.459±0.006 b, and the fractional decrease in charge radius between the first excited state and the ground state is approximately .
