The Immune Response in Hypothalamic-Lesioned and Hypophysectomized Rats

Abstract
A large number of conflicting reports on the role of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis in antibody production have appeared in the literature. We have shown that focal hypothalamic lesions which are capable of producing profound metabolic alterations are incapable of diminishing antobody production as measured by passive hemagglutination. Moreover, such treatment does not appear to affect the animal’s peripheral reactivity to the interaction of exogenous antibody and antigen. Similarly, hypophysectomy has no detectable effect on antibody production.
