Abstract
A study was made of the effect of various electrolytes in the formation of intestinal lymph in rats. Among the major electrolytes tested in this study, only the cation Na stimulated the formation of intestinal lymph in rats in the presence of halogens (chloride, bromide and iodide) or bicarbonate as anions, when given into the stomach. The optimal concentration for the lymphagogic effect of saline is 0.9%. The possible mechanism of the formation of intestinal lymph is discussed. Keywords
