Pharyngeal Deposition of Surfactant in the Premature Rabbit Fetus

Abstract
A concentrated surfactant suspension was deposited in the pharynx of premature rabbit fetuses, before the onset of breathing. This treatment improved the air expansion of the lungs and prolonged fetal survival. Possibly, a similar technique might be employed as a prophylactic measure against respiratory distress in premature infants.
