Going casual

Abstract
Is the NHS nursing workforce being ‘casualised? Recent reports (1) have noted an apparent increase in the use of temporary staff and short term contracts in the NHS, paralleling a more general growth of casual employment in the British economy. Permanent employment in full- or part-time posts has been the norm for NHS nurses, with bank nursing being the traditional source of flexibility. Is this employment pattern changing?
