Abstract
Multidisciplinary aspects of research on human taste were reviewed, with particular emphasis on the human oral cavity as a pharmacological preparation in situ. The gustatory response was regarded as a sensory expression of chemoreception, a feedback loop reflecting systemic (re)activity.
