Abstract
A procedure has been developed, which makes it possible to prepare a Drosophila bait, which is a good attractant, but is free of living microorganisms. Mashed banana is allowed to ferment by baker''s yeast, after which the mash is treated with ethylene oxide or prophlene-oxide (1% by volume). Treatment sterilizes the bait, while the germicide decomposes readily into nontoxic end products. Bait is suitable for collecting Drosophila in order to study microflora present in their crops. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
