The Sternoclavicular Articulation in Rheumatic Diseases

Abstract
The sternoclavicular articulation is affected by various types of rheumatic disorder with greater frequency than is appreciated clinically. This is illustrated with 4 instances of rheumatoid arthritis, 1 of gout and 1 of infectious synovitis. A descr. of the histology of the normal joint and the degenerative changes occurring with age is presented to distinguish them from the specific lesions of the former. Examination of this structure is recommended when other joints may not be dissected at necropsy of patients who have polyarthritis.
