Abstract
The deacetylase activity of extracts of various tissues of various spp. was examined. The deacetylase hydrolyzing N-acetylglycine appeared to be distinct from that hydrolyzing acetanilide. N-Acetyl-DL-alanine and N-acetyl-L-leucine, but not N-methylacetamide, were hydrolyzed by the acetylglycine deacetylase. Many substituted acetanilides were readily hydrolyzed, especially those with the substituent in the ortho position. The correlation between deacetylase activity of tissues in vitro and the process of deacetylation in vivo was discussed. Keywords
