Abstract

Sch 34343, a new pcnem antibiotic, has been synthesized by several routes and found to be highly active against both aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms (except Pseudomonas ). It has excellent β -lactamase stability and is bactericidal. The synthetic routes to Sch 34343 and its in-vitro activity compared with other structurally related penems are discussed.
