Abstract
A new triterpene triol from the title plant has been shown to be lup-20(29)-ene-38,168,28-trio1 (1) by degradation to deoxyallobetulin (7) and to lupane-3β,16β-diol (4). Treatment of the triol (1) with subsequent acetylation, and of betulin (10) with concentrated hydrochloric acid in ethanol was found to give the 20,28-epoxy-19αH-lupane derivatives (12) and (13) respectively. Amendments are given to the names of a number of plants examined in this series. Keywords
