Abstract
A model is developed in order to explain the hysteresis loops of longitudinal magnetisation as a function of the circular applied magnetic field in magnetostrictive samples subjected to weak torsional stress. The experimental results obtained in thin polycrystalline nickel wires are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions. Keywords
