L’Angioscotome physiologique

Abstract
Angioscotomata resulting from the presence of the vessels in the inner layers of the retina, which project a shadow by intercepting the light, are demonstrable with difficulty. These scotomata will enlarge under pathological circumstances (for instance oxygen deficiency, compression of the jugular veins and other circumstances of faulty retinal circulation and nerve nutrition). The authors plotted these scotomata on the Bjerrum screen (ablack screen, placed 1 meter from the subject) with an illumination of 3-5 Lux. To reveal the pattern of the angioscotomata of the normal eye, the diam. of the test object must not exceed 3 mm. An angioscotoma demonstrable with an object of 15 mm. in diam. is considered to be certainly pathological.
