Abstract
After the patient had experienced a nearly fatal attack of thrombocytopenia, it was necessary to determine which of 3 drugs she had been receiving was the offending allergen. Since administration of a test dose would have been too dangerous, extracorporeal methods were utilized. The passive transfer reaction readily identified quinidine as the offending drug. Passive transfer, which is easily performed, proved more sensitive than more complicated in vitro tests using patient''s serum, hapten (drug to be tested), platelet-rich serum, and complement.
