Abstract
The substrate stereochemistry of enzymes is discussed. Characteristically, an enzyme forms a specific complex with its substrate, then transforms that substrate by a stereospecific mechanism. The conformation of the substrate, the conformation of the transition states for reaction, the preferred reaction mechanism and the conformation of the product are all potentially important. Imitation of enzymic catalysis is discussed. Keywords
